Matthew was a star hockey player and captain for the West Warwick/Exeter-West Greenwich hockey team.
He spent a month in the hospital after he was critically injured in a car crash involving an alleged drunk driver. During that time, he received countless blood products, from whole blood to platelets, as he fought to survive.
Sadly, Matthew would succumb to his injuries and passed away in March of 2022 at just 17.
RIBC had the honor of speaking with Matthew’s parents on the importance of blood donations and how this simple act is a way to honor their son’s legacy.
