A milestone years in the making was celebrated on May 1 at Juanita Sanchez Education Complex, where Rhode Island Blood Center recognized both the Providence Public School District and the school for helping achieve 10,000 blood donations collected across the district.
The achievement was officially reached during Juanita Sanchez’s previous blood drive and commemorated at their recent blood drive with cake, balloons, and certificates honoring the longstanding partnership between Providence Public Schools and Rhode Island Blood Center.
For decades, Providence Public Schools have hosted blood drives that give students, staff, and community members an opportunity to make a direct impact on local patients in need. Across the district, more than 380 blood drives have contributed to a steady culture of service — one that has now resulted in 10,000 donations.
Juanita Sanchez Education Complex has been a consistent contributor to that effort, helping sustain donor participation while reinforcing the importance of community involvement among its students.
The celebration brought together Providence Public Schools Superintendent Javier Montañez, Juanita Sanchez Education Complex Principal Ariana Testa, Blood Drive Coordinator Sarah Young, Rhode Island Blood Center Donor Recruitment Manager Sarah Perez, as well as student coordinators Jay’a and Joseline.

In a country where only a small percentage of people donate blood, partnerships like these make a measurable difference — not only in donation numbers, but in lives touched across the community.
