Limited-edition beer highlights the connection between blood donation, community and coming together to support patients in need

PAWTUCKET, RI – Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC) and Discipline Brewing Co. celebrated the launch of “Bee Positive,” a limited-edition beer collaboration on Thursday, October 1. The beer was created to highlight the connection between blood donation, community and the power of coming together.

The celebration brought together elected officials and community leaders to recognize those who support RIBC’s lifesaving mission. The event included live music and a look at the Bee Positive partnership and the story behind the collaboration.

The name “Bee Positive” is a play on B positive, one of the eight blood types. The bee theme was chosen to reflect the way bees work together and each play a role in supporting the hive. Similarly, we each play a vital role in helping provide hospitals with the blood they need for their patients.

“Discipline Brewing Co is honored to introduce Bee Positive, a Marzen with honey, brewed in collaboration with Rhode Island Blood Center,” said Tony Lustig, Co-owner of Discipline Brewing Co. The can art reads, ‘The hive is about community. Service. Connection.’ These principles are what blood donation is all about: supporting the health and safety of a perfect stranger. Cheers to you for representing the best of humanity

“There is a reason the bee felt like the right symbol for this partnership,” said Hunter Shaffer, Vice President of Operations at Rhode Island Blood Center. “Bees thrive because the whole community contributes, and our blood supply is no different. It is built donor by donor, blood drive by blood drive and partnership by partnership. We hope Bee Positive creates some buzz, but more importantly, we hope it reminds people how powerful it can be when a community shows up for one another.”

Bee Positive will be available on tap and in four-packs at Discipline Brewing Co., located at 100 Carver Street in Pawtucket, throughout October while supplies last.
