AFE Survivor and Family Pays it Forward after Blood Donors Saved Her Life

Rebecca Elshanawany and child

Rebecca and her son Zayn are AFE (Amniotic Fluid Embolism) survivors. This is a rare and often life-threatening complication that some experience during childbirth.

Rebecca required over 12 units of blood as doctors raced to save her life during this ordeal.

She is now paying it forward, hosting a yearly blood drive to help RIBC in our lifesaving mission while also raising awareness on AFE and the constant need for blood.
